Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is vegetable tanned leather?

A: It is leather which has been tanned with wood or bark, such as mimosa, chestnut, or oak, amongst many others.

Q: Why use vegetable tanned leather?

A: Because vegetable tanned leather has a unique aroma and feel to it. Over time the leather becomes more supple and a natural colour change occurs.

Q: Is vegetable tanned leather better for the environment?

A: Yes. Vegetable tanning is a more natural method of tanning, which in turn, allows the leather to break down more naturally into the environment.  And most wood and bark used for the tanning process can be obtained from renewable resources.

Q: Why stitch by hand?

A: Handstitching not only adds to the beauty of the bag, it is also much stronger than machine stitching, which makes it well worth the extra time involved.

Q: Can I have something made for me that isn't on your website?

A: Yes. I will always be happy to discuss your requirements.  Please contact me via the contact page.

Q: How long will it be before I receive my new bag?

A: It can depend on which bag you have ordered, but I endeavour to complete your bag within six weeks of ordering. However, I would advise that you order your bag in plenty of time if it's for a special occasion, as I sometimes have a 'waiting' list of three or four months.

Q: What is a 'moulded' leather bag?

A: The leather used to make the bag, will first be wet and then moulded around a form.  This method results in a firm and sturdy bag which looks stunning!

Q: Do you only make bags?

A: No. I also make belts and carnival masks.
